Letter From Our Sponsor
Dear Students and Supporters:
I want to thank all members for your support and hard work. A year has passed and we’re standing stronger now than ever. Our accomplishments today, what we can see and build upon for our future, were created from scratch: dedicated efforts of a collective mission and united group of students as the SEED for tomorrow’s growth. We will continue our partnership with committed students, community, and hospitals. Our hope is to provide students with opportunities to teach and tutor meanwhile helping nurses get their bachelor and masters degree.
I want to take this opportunity to talk a bit about our background and that related.
“We made ourselves, our organization together, a resilient and strong mission. If you think about what this organization has been through, I think you’ll agree with me it’s been able to hold its ground when odds were against us. At the start of the year (2005-2006) – that happens to be the time our organization was established – this organization has been through external difficulties as well as different internal reconstruction plans. We have faced a corner of desperation and a wall of defeat at most. But never was there a door that fails to open when we need it most. In a short time, we had to spread the words to other students while having to maintain our connection with the nurses. However with every tough start is hopefully a day when we sit back and truly watch an organization stand strong on its own foundation. And that day is here.
As a part of UCSD’s organization, we aim to establish a connection, a.k.a bridge between professionals and students through academic tutoring. We plan to continue to mentor elementary/middle/high school children of San Diego, while extending our ladder upward. Having been recognized as a non-profit organization under the title Service: We want to serve our community. The question is WHY.
WHY: We have had our shares of community services and mentoring those younger than us before. When the SAT I changed, we tried our best to create a smoother transition for high school students, mainly juniors and seniors. When AP exams came knocking at the doors, we helped these students open each door through preparation and anticipation. In the past, we did our best to involve ourselves with our community and children in it. We believe that the best way to prepare these students is to share our surprises so they won’t have to be surprised. On the contrary, they shall open each door with ANTICIPATION.
When we heard that some nurses are still going to school to further their education, we decide to reach out and see what we can do to make the process an easy and efficient. We believe that there is no limitation to how one can help another. Beside, this will be a learning experience for both sides. Our goal is to bridge the connection between students and professionals, whether it be nurses or others… one step at a time. Living is connection. That is why we believe in offering our service to reach nurses that need tutoring in any of their classes.
There is a saying “Education is the value at which you give it.” In educating and tutoring nurses we allow ourselves the opportunity to learn, to experience mentorship, to serve our community, and bridge students with health professionals such as nurses.
You know, one of the important things about OneSTEP is that in a collective system, students who benefit from the community understand there is an obligation to put something back into the community, an obligation to help people in need. And I want to thank each member’s participation and support for leading the way.”
